Maren’s Maiden Voyage

August 8, 2025

Today, Maren the Nordic Tugboat left the Roche Harbor dock on Friday Harbor, WA for her very first official voyage!

The sun rose over the harbor in a golden haze, turning her hull into a beacon against the morning mist. Her engine hummed steady, and the scent of saltwater drifted across the deck.

We ran through the safety protocols, checked the interactive list twice (because tradition), and gave the horn a ceremonious *BWAH* that startled a few gulls into squawking approval. The crew moved with a mix of practiced steps and excitement, quietly testing the rhythm between human and vessel.

Maren handled like a dream — steady in the turns, quick to respond, and surprisingly graceful for her stout frame. We passed a nearby island, where a few curious onlookers waved from the rocks. We waved hello.

By midday, we’d settled into our route, logging weather notes and sea conditions while sipping coffee that always tastes better offshore. The horizon stretched endlessly ahead, and it felt as though we were writing the first lines of a story that would span countless pages.

As the sun dipped low, we turned back toward harbor, her wake fanning out in the orange sunset glow. Back at dock, we tied her lines back to the harbor with care. Maren’s first day complete!

If today is any sign, she’s more than just a tugboat. She’s a spirited little ship with a heart as big as the ocean.

End of Log.
